Telephones in The Orange County Jail Complex

Telephones are availble to all inmates in the Orange County Jail.  Depending on where the inmate is housed, they will have phone access each day for between two and twelve hours.  If the inmates housing unit is in trouble with the guards, they may have phone privleges suspended completely.

Each living area has between two and six phones for all of the inmates to share. Some living areas house as many as 80 inmates so getting an opportunity to use the phone may be difficult.  The phones may also be segregated according to race. 

Orange County has recently switched their phone provider to Global Telink.  This is a prepay system and is very expensive.  Each inmate call will cost at least $4 and can go up from there.  Additionally, each time you add money to your prepay account, there is a 19% tax that is assessed on your deposit.  When setting up your account you can either add $25 or $50 at a time.  The 19% tax means you will be given a credit of either  $20.25 or $40.50 in allowable calls. 

There is a secret that few inmates know about and it's called a flat pay account.  If you feel that bail is not an option for your loved one, and they are going to spend some time at Orange County Jail, it may be worth the effort to set up a Flat Pay account with global telink.  This will allow you to add as much money at a time as you desire WITHOUT having to pay the 19% tax!!!!

When you make a phone call the operator will announce that you are calling from the Orange County Jail so you cannot easily deceive people into thinking you are somewhere else if you need to make a call.  While previously it was not possible to call out to cell phones (since they can't accept collect calls), with the new Global Telink prepaid account, inmates are able to call cell phones.
